RoadiAlert

Check your speed without needing Apple Maps

-

$0.99 From Telnus, facebook.com/Telnus Made For iPhone, Watch Needs iOS 10.3 or later While it’s good that Apple Maps now displays the speed limit while driving, that feature doesn’t help when driving without navigation assistance. That’s where RoadiAlert comes in. It keeps tabs on how fast you’re travelling, and alerts you when you’ve exceeded the local speed limit.

Conveniently, RoadiAlert also works on Apple Watch, where it makes sense to feel a vibrating alert while driving. The problem is, as the developer notes, the app “may contain wrong speed limits,” so it’s not always a reliable substitute for observing speed signs.

You’ll also want to keep your iPhone plugged in when background updates are enabled, since they consume 10 percent of battery life for every hour of travel. You have the option of adding a complication to the watch face to keep tabs on your speed, and there’s an alert threshold setting that warns when you’re a set amount over the limit.

the bottom line. Handy for drivers with a lead foot, but it hits battery life hard. J.R. Bookwalter SOLID
