Sharing a calendar using iCloud is great for organizing family life, work projects, or regular events with friends. There are two distinct types of shared calendar: public and private. The key difference is that public calendars can be edited only by the calendar owner. Private calendars can be edited by the owner or anyone to whom the owner grants specific permission. Invitees with editing privileges can create, edit, and delete events, and track invitation responses.

Both public and private calendars can be viewed in the Calendar app on a Mac or iOS device and in Microsoft Outlook on a Windows PC. Public calendars can also be viewed in any app that supports the iCalendar format (files usually having the extension .ics).

Regardless of whether a calendar is public or private, only the creator can share it. You can make a calendar public or share it privately from the Calendar app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or from iCloud.com. There are many public calendars, covering lots of different interests. One of our favorites is NASA’s launch calendar. You’ll find it and others at icalshare.com. Kenny Hemphill
