Access iCloud in Windows

Hook up your iCloud account to Boot Camp or a Windows PC

-

Do you wo rk with a Windows PC as well as Apple devices, or dip into Boot Camp on your Mac? Then you should arm yourself with Apple’s iCloud for Windows utility ( bit.ly/icforwin). As with regular iCloud accounts set up through macOS or iOS, installing it earns you 5GB of iCloud storage, which can be upgraded if you find it’s getting full.

The software lets you sync an iCloud Photo Library with your PC. It also syncs email accounts and browser bookmarks.

iCloud Drive is added to the Windows directory tree, so it appears in File Explorer, and your messages, tasks and reminders are synced between iCloud and Outlook. Apple can’t import messages from every account already set up in Outlook, so only the @icloud.com address that’s created when you sign up for iCloud is synced (along with older @me. com and @mac.com addresses).

As with Safari on the Mac, you can use iCloud for Windows to sync your bookmarks and tabs with your web browser. Unfortunately, if you switch between multiple browsers on Windows it won’t update them all, but it does support Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. At present there’s no support for Edge, Microsoft’s browser for Windows 10.

If content isn’t updating between Windows and iCloud, check that the necessary add-ins for Outlook are active. Switch to Outlook’s File tab, click Options, then Add-ins. If iCloud appears under either Inactive or Disabled Add-ins, select COM Add-ins from the Manage menu at the bottom and click OK, and then restart Outlook or even your PC.
