How to Use Clips’ advanced features
Create Live Titles
In a project, tap Camera and choose whether to record using the front or rear camera. Tap the speech bubble to pick a look for your captions. Swipe left for more choices. Tap one to preview it, then ‘X’ to apply.
Finish recording
When you’re done recording, tap a clip’s thumbnail in the timeline to select it. Tap Trim and drag the arrows at the left and right end of the clip to edit its start and end points, followed by Apply when you’ve finished.
Add a filter
Tap Effects and you’ll be shown a selection of filters you can apply to the selected clip – most emphasize the color or provide black and white effects, but two will change its look dramatically: Comic Book and Ink.
Speak over the clip
Hold a finger on the record button and speak as you record. (Or swipe upwards from the button to lock in record mode). Speak and your Live Titles will appear in real time over the preview of what you’re recording.
Correct text
The app may have incorrectly transcribed what you said. Tap a clip in the timeline, then tap Live Titles to view the text – if it’s wrong, tap the words to amend them. You can’t alter the text’s timing, just the text itself.
Labels and more
While in the Effects tool, tap Labels, Stickers or Emoji to add those elements. Labels and stickers are editable – tap the text to change it. All elements can be moved, rotated, or resized using gestures.
Captioning tips
Release the button to pause the recording and finish that clip’s titles. You can create a fresh clip after this point by holding or swiping again. Hold a finger on a clip in the timeline and drag it left or right to change the order.
Mute the audio
By default, your speech will be heard when the clip plays – tap Mute if you only want captions. If adding Live Titles to a video from your library, you can mute your voice (recorded audio) or the original audio of that clip.
Add text frames
Tap Done to finish the clip. Tap Posters for a selection of intertitles. Pick a design, then tap the text to edit it. Hold record for as long as you want the title to be. You can trim or extend its duration later, as in step 4.
