Kanex MultiSync Keyboard
$59.99 From Kanex, kanex.com Features One–touch switching between four devices, wired– compatible, 1,200mAh battery, full numeric keypad Design
Two foldaway legs raise the Kanex to a comfortable typing angle, but the lack of depth makes the build feel lightweight and plasticky in comparison. The power switch is hidden away on the back; a side–mounted Micro–USB port enables wired connections and charging for the 1,200mAh battery.
Features
Up to four devices can be paired with the Kanex via the row of keys above the number pad. Keys F1 through F12 include the full set of Mac system functions, with F13 to F15 to spare. Quick switching between devices is handy, but nothing to write home about. The Mac power key is a welcome addition, but the lack of backlighting is a definite minus.
Performance
The flat keycaps have a decent enough clack that should satisfy the ears of touch typists, but the tactile feedback feels a little flimsy when compared to other keyboards available. Users who prefer the pre-2016 MacBook keyboards over Apple’s contentious new butterfly mechanism will relate to this point.
Controls
Switching between devices was less seamless than the Logitech — a short pause between selections was evident, although the connections remained robust throughout. The Application View (F4) key was eminently more usable than the Launchpad key, but the Search key (F6) was iOS only and sadly doesn’t invoke Spotlight in macOS.
