Planny

Slick task manager with assistant

- Nik Ra wlinson

Free (IAPs) From Kevin Reutter, kevinreutter.de Made for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch Needs iOS 11 or later

Planny is a day–planning tool with a smart built–in assistant. It draws up a stream of jobs each morning, pulled from lists, stuff you didn’t get done yesterday, and your regular routines — the latter of which are tasks that you set to repeat on a daily or weekly basis. The way they’re presented helps you think about what needs to be done, and you can change the order, set deadlines (for which notifications will pop up), and add notes that appear when you press harder with 3D touch.

The Planny workflow is very smooth, automatically dropping you down to the next line each time you add a task, so you can build your lists almost as quickly as jobs spring to mind. Your primary focus will be the Today screen, which lets you see in an instant what needs doing. Elsewhere, where things might be more freeform — like lists — there’s a search box to help you find what you’re after.

The basic app is free, with a $6.99 IAP adding iCloud syncing across devices, location–based reminders, and other useful features. If you’re working alone, the free app should do all you need.

It’s integrated with Siri and search, so your tasks will show up in results from either. Its Messages plug–in lets you send direct collaboration requests without jumping into the app itself. Naturally, the recipient will need Planny, complete with the IAP, to accept.

the bottom line. A worthy addition to the wide range of day– planning apps on account of its rethought workflow.
