If you’re anything like us, your Camera Roll will be full of picture memos: books you’ve spotted in shops that you might read one day, clothes you might buy, places you’d like to eat… you’ll also have a host of memos, thoughts, and half–formed wish lists in Notes. Collections lets you keep the two together — groups of photos with annotations, neatly organized however makes the most sense.
So, if you’re shortlisting a new car or researching next year’s vacation, you can snap options and inspiration whenever you come across them, add notes, prices and locations, and come back to them later. You can create as many collections as you need, each containing an unlimited number of items. Collections can sync through iCloud, and you can post their contents to social media, or share them with friends to collaborate. That way, if the whole family’s pitching in ideas for a grand day out, they’ll be collated in a single collection for everyone to choose from.
It’s a bit of a one–trick pony, but there’s nothing wrong with that when it performs that trick so gracefully. It’s a beautifully simple solution to a problem we didn’t realize we had until we saw that there was a better way of doing things. It’s a shame there’s no macOS edition to let you clip from the web. For the time being we’ll just keep screen–grabbing from iOS, pulling in images externally.
the bottom line. So simple and logical, we’re surprised Apple hasn’t thought of it already.
