Year–over–year, iPad shipments in the June quarter (more than 11.5m units) were also roughly level–pegging, but revenue was down 5%. Compared to the previous quarter, however, sales were up 27% and revenue 15%, and IDC says Apple and Huawei were the only tablet manufacturers to report sales growth in the quarter. The tablet market worldwide shrank 13.5% in the quarter, IDC said, but Apple widened its lead at the top with a 34.9% market share, up from 29.9% in the June quarter 2017. In the earnings call, Tim Cook said “almost half” of iPad purchases in the quarter were by buyers new to iPad.
