Moleskine’s Timepage calendar app stands out from most of its contemporaries thanks to its stylish good looks. But aesthetics alone aren’t enough to make it one of our favorite apps — it has a great deal more to offer than that.

V3 is described as its biggest ever update, and crams in enough new features and improvements — over 30 — to have a traditional Moleskine notebook bulging at the seams.

Top of the list is the new floating “+” button. By tapping and holding on it, you can drag it over a day to add an event on that day much quicker than manually typing the date. When you drop it on a day, the new window opens, ready for you to start typing details. When you do, you’ll notice another new feature, the Recents Bar. Sitting on top of the keyboard, the Recents Bar auto– suggests locations that you’ve used and people you’ve invited in the past.

Tap the recent events button and you’ll see a list of events you’ve recently created, tap one and your new event is populated with the same details as that one.

Among the other new features, month view is now available on the iPhone version by rotating it in Timeline mode, and there’s a new year view. One of our favorite additions is that Timepage is now smart enough to combine birthdays from multiple calendars. So, for example, if you have an iCloud calendar and a Google calendar and both have birthdays, you will only see one set.

Of course, Timepage wouldn’t be Timepage without some new aesthetic loveliness — there are five new theme colors in this version. The Reminders screen has been overhauled: adding a reminder for an event is now as simple as tapping a button corresponding to how long before the start of the event you want a reminder. And if you have a location set, Timepage will now give you a reminder based on the time you need to leave your location.

There’s still no support for natural language input, which is odd given that Moleskine’s Actions app does. But given that adding events is so easy, it’s not a great loss.

It’s worth noting that Timepage is a membership service — after the trial period, you’ll need to sign up to enable full access to all its features.

THE BOTTOM LINE. Still beautiful, and now it’s also a very useful calendar app.
