Whether you’re a Shortcuts junkie or just dabble from time to time, the chances are you have a growing library of shortcuts that’s becoming increasingly unwieldy. That’s precisely the problem that LaunchCuts sets out to solve.

As its name suggests, LaunchCuts is a launcher for shortcuts. But it does a great deal more than that. For example, it allows you to organize shortcuts by putting them into smart folders. These allow you to filter shortcuts based on tags, or by other attributes such as their color, icon, or type. And you can arrange folders according to their favorite status, name, or manually.

LaunchCuts also allows you to decide how many shortcuts you want to see on–screen at one time in any given folder. Arrange them, say, in a 6x10 grind, or have just one per row.

As you’d expect, you can access folders from the

Today widget, sync them with iCloud, create multiple instances of LaunchCuts for multi-tasking in iPadOS, and access it from Share Sheets. But you can also use keyboard shortcuts to navigate folders and launch shortcuts, and even create your own custom actions. Version 1.2 adds custom folder icons and colors,

Quick Actions, and more custom actions.

To achieve all this, LaunchCuts needs to do some clever stuff to access your shortcuts, which are stored inside the Shortcuts app. It builds a database of them by running a helper shortcut of its own to extract metadata. It does that once as part of the set–up process, and you need to do it manually periodically after that.

LaunchCuts looks just like Shortcuts, using the same colors and icons for your shortcuts. And that’s no bad thing, since it makes them easier to identify. Tap a shortcut to run it and LaunchCuts launches Apple’s Shortcuts app. Tap the search or sort bars, however, and LaunchCuts’ beefed–up search and organizational features reveal themselves. Simply tap and hold on a shortcut and you can add it to a folder, edit it, run it, or set a Quick Action. Quick Actions allow you to launch up to three shortcuts or folders by pressing and holding on the LaunchCuts app in the Home screen.

THE BOTTOM LINE. If you have so many shortcuts that you struggle to organize them, LaunchCuts is essential.
