Made for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Needs iOS 13.0; watchOS 6.1 or later

Tangerine has a single goal, but one that’s notoriously hard to get people to do: Build better habits. Adding a new habit is quick and simple. Enter a title for the habit, how often you aim to do it, and whether you want to be reminded about it (we highly recommend enabling this), then tap Save. You can swipe through the calendar view at the top to see upcoming tasks and browse previously completed actions. Actions can be marked as completed or skipped with a quick swipe, and each day and your mood can be rated and described with the journal feature.

The app has a superbly crafted, beautifully simple design. It works with iOS’s Dark Mode, and we love how easy it is not only to get started, but to manage your habits on an ongoing basis. An indicator on the calendar of how many habits you need to do each day would have been beneficial, as would the ability to set multiple reminders for each habit, but they’re not deal–breakers.

Insights, stats and your habit history are all behind a subscription paywall, which will set you back $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. We’d have preferred some sort of insights in the free version, even if they were restricted, as being unable to follow your progress is very limiting. If you do pay, the stats you get are decent, but we’d have liked more analysis. Yet this is the only major drawback of an otherwise excellent habit tracker.

THE BOTTOM LINE. A beautiful habit builder — it’s just a shame about the paywalled insights. ALEX BLAKE
