HOW TO Master metadata

1 Get info

Every shot contains metadata that includes information on the camera settings used to capture the photo. It may also contain GPS co–ordinates that show where the shot was captured. Click “i” to reveal the Info panel.

2 Add keywords

You can’t change a photo’s file name, but you can add a title and a description in the Info panel’s text fields to help identify it. You can also add descriptive keywords to help Photos (and other apps) locate the image.

3 Modify metadata

To adjust a shot’s date and time, click the date in the Info panel. An adjust date window will appear. Tap the arrows to adjust the date and time. You can also change the location of the shot by dragging the red pin.

4 Assign location

If your camera doesn’t have a GPS feature you can still geo–tag a shot. Start typing a location into the “Assign a location” field and then select one from the list of options. Hit Return. You’ll now see the photo’s location pinned on a map.

5 Search by places

To discover more photos according to where they were captured, click the Places category in the Library panel. Zoom in on the map to see clusters of photos grouped geographically. Zoom in more to view individual photos.

6 Add to favorites

A quick way to make a photo stand out from the crowd is to click the Add to Favorites icon. This adds a little heart icon to the Info tab. Access your collection of favorites files by clicking Favorites in the Library panel.
