HOW TO Stay safe online with Clario

-

1 Try for free

Clario is a subscription service, available from clario.co. It costs $24.99 per month, or $128.99 per year, with special offers sometimes available. There’s also a seven–day free trial if you want to check it out first.

2 Protect your devices

Set up your account and download the Clario app. Your subscription allows you to use Clario with three different devices, which can be Macs, iOS or Android, with Windows coming soon.

3 On the dashboard

The Clario app for Macs has a “dashboard” that provides protection in six main areas: Identity, Browsing, Device, Money, Network, and Files (the iOS app is more limited). Just click on one of these big buttons to get started.

4 Safe browsing

Let’s start with the basics by protecting our web browsing in Safari. Clario offers a number of features here, including a VPN to hide your identity and location, and extensions for Safari to block trackers, ads, and pop–ups.

5 Helpful guidance

When you first get started, Clario may need you to help install those extensions and VPN software on your Mac. However, the app gives you plenty of help to guide you through, and you only have to do this once.

6 Online money

There’s some overlap between these features. For instance, the “online shopping” and “online banking” protection both rely on installing anti– malware software to prevent malicious websites from stealing personal info.

7 VPN protection

Another key area of protection is the use of a VPN to protect your identity when you’re browsing the web on your home network. Clario’s built–in VPN can also protect you from being hacked when using public Wi–Fi.

8 Hacking attacks

Clario can protect your Mac’s camera and microphone too, stopping hackers from snooping on you in your own home. It’s a shame, though, that these particular features aren’t available on the iOS version of Clario.

9 Online support

Clario is fairly expensive, but what you’re really paying for is the 24/7 online help with Clario staff. You can chat online, over the phone, or even set up a remote connection for more hands–on help.
