With school holidays upon us, here are a few suggestion­s if you’re looking for ways to entertain your kids over the next fortnight.

HOBART CITY BUSH ADVENTURES

VARIOUS LOCATIONS, DATES AND TIMES The winter program features fun activities for a range of ages. For the younger ones (aged 2-5), there’s Flora the Explorer’s Silver Falls on Wednesday from 10-11.30am, which follows the Pipeline Track, and Penguin Party next Saturday from 10-11.30am at Long Beach. For those in the lower primary grades, try Nestorama at Waterworks Reserve on Thursday from 1.30-3pm, where kids can play “spotto” to count the number of birds they see, and for upper primary grades, there’s the Amazing Race on Tuesday from 10-11.30am, also at the Waterworks Reserve. For those with older kids (aged 10-14), book now for Night Orienteeri­ng, on Thursday, from 4-7pm. As well as these child-focused activities, there are also plenty of family events, such as the night-time spotlighti­ng at Waterworks Reserve next Saturday from 5-6.30pm and even “Just for Adults” guided walks. THE BIG DRAW

CONTEMPORA­RY ART TASMANIA, NORTH HOBART, WEDNESDAY, 9AM-4PM Kids in Years 7 and 8 are invited to join three contempora­ry artists in this fun workshop. A series of activities hosted by the artists – Selena de Carvalho, Shannon Field and Sara Wright – will culminate in a big drawing that will later showcase at the Internatio­nal Big Draw Festival. VOICE AND RHYTHM

ROSNY FARM ARTS CENTRE, TUESDAY, NOON Led by rhythm teacher Christina Giudici, this workshop will use words, steps, claps and shakers to explore integratin­g rhythms in a playful way. The goal is for participan­ts to arrive at a state of deep relaxation and restored energy through the power of percussion. HOW TO SING POP

TMAG ACTIVITIES

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY, VARIOUS TIMES The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery will host a range of drop-in activities, from penguin talks to making a silent movie. The Central Gallery is also a hot spot for pop-up Festival of Voices events. No bookings are required and all events are on a drop-in basis. MARITIME MUSEUM

TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, BOTH WEEKS, 10AM-NOON With the cooler weather upon us, enjoy this series of indoor games under the theme of “A Day of Nautical Fun and Games”. A range of activities is planned, including Battleship and the more active Penguin Freeze Tag. There will also be strategy games for older kids and adults. STORIES OF THE BROOKER

MOONAH ARTS CENTRE, THURSDAY 1-3PM Ideal for kids aged between eight and 14, this two-hour creative workshop led by artist Leigh Rigozzi delves into postcard design and micro-fiction writing based on experience­s relating to the Brooker Highway.
