Indulge your curiosity and creativity at today’s Festival of Bright Ideas – a free, family-friendly event celebratin­g Tasmania’s science sector as part of National Science Week. Go back in time to the land of dinosaurs thanks to virtual reality; see what plants and animals look like under a microscope; learn about the importance of ear wax, burps and boogers; and test your tastebuds in Questacon’s Tasty Science show. You can also write your own computer program, build with Lego, or take a walking tour to learn more about the history and geology of Salamanca. Since 2002 over 15 million people in 17 countries have enjoyed this musical comedy based on Queen’s biggest hits, including We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You. This ARIA-winning singer/songwriter returns to her home state to perform in the intimate setting of Bangor Vineyard Shed. Brumby will perform with her bass player of 22 years, Maryanne Window, between service of the venue’s food and beverage menu. The audience will be invited to ask Brumby questions about her life and career. Tickets are $95 (for live music and countrysty­le finger food). JOKERS COMEDY CLUB, NEW TOWN RD, NEW TOWN, 8PM

This Melbourne-based comedian started his career as a community TV and radio presenter before diving into stand-up comedy. You may have spotted him on ABC TV recently in shows like SEUSSICAL KIDS Most adults have fond memories of reading weird and wacky Dr Seuss books as youngsters and those books are still loved by children today. In this all-ages theatre show, The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton as Dr Seuss’s best-loved characters collide, transporti­ng audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus. Shows on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm and Saturday at 11am and 12.30pm. Shows run for 30 minutes with no interval. Tickets are $15.
