ISLAND LIFE

- WORDS PENNY MCLEOD PHOTOGRAPHY LUISA BRIMBLE

Sarah Glover likes to go “the extra mile” when she’s cooking outdoors. Whenever possible, that means travelling to remote locations by boat, car or on foot with her best crockery and gourmet supplies.

“Use your imagination and think outside of the box,” says Glover, whose inaugural cookbook Wild is now on its second release.

“Don’t be afraid to have fun with the good chinaware. My theory is just use it, have some fun with it. My whole book is a bit idealistic at times. It’s about going the extra mile, packing something fun, and going to a different location a bit out of the way, whether it’s by boat, car, or hiking.”

Tassie-born Glover, whose catering company Wild Kitchen specialises in cooking outdoors over fire, is shown here in a boat laden with cooking equipment and food supplies at Tasmania’s Satellite Island.

The keen surfer cooks for guests at the island when she’s not posting photographs of her adventures on Instagram or styling images for her cookbook with photographer Luisa Brimble. “I’m obsessed with cooking off the boat at the moment,” Glover says. “You can get barbecues that you hook on the side of your boat. Tasmania is surrounded by water so for me it’s about finding those special locations.”

She says she loves the challenge of cooking outdoors: “The different wood, weather, locations, and heat temperatures. It’s just a lot more complex than turning the gas or electric stove on. That challenge keeps it exciting.”

Sarah Glover will be cooking over fire outdoors at The Taste of Tasmania on Friday, December 28. To book tickets, visit
