ASTRID ROT

- CIRCUS OZ PERFORMER

I was happiest when ... I was at The Roxy in LA opening for Amanda Palmer, a dream come true. You wouldn’t know it but ... even though I’m not an acrobat like the rest of the Circus Oz performers, I can do a very fast forward roll. My most embarrassing moment ... doing a forward roll on stage and realising I wasn’t wearing any underpants. Luckily it was very fast. The last time I cried was ... when I found out that Prince had died. I’d loved him all my life and When Doves Cry is one of my favourite songs. The last book I read was... Pleasure and Pain by Chrissie Amphlett. What an amazing rock star she was. The Divinyls were the best. My favourite films are ... 24 Hour Party People, Stop Making Sense and Wings of Desire. really want to ... rock out in Tasmania with my little brother Otto and Circus Oz. We’ve heard nothing but excellent things about Tassie and I can’t wait to eat all your yummy foods. My guilty pleasure is ... eating all the yummy foods (except I never feel guilty). Life has taught me ... don’t eat too much before you go on stage and do a roly-poly. I’m about to ... go on a regional tour around Australia with Otto and our show, Eurosmash. My first job was ... in a Berlin bakery when I was 13. My most memorable workrelated moment is … having Circus Oz acrobats be my “Astrid stunt doubles” in Rock Bang — too much fun! What I enjoy most about my work is … working with all kinds of different people, travelling the world and eating nice foods.

ICircus Oz — Rock Bang is a riotous, hard-rocking circus performance that tells the story of siblings Otto and Astrid Rot who were orphaned as kids and grew up in artist-filled squats to become the darlings of Berlin’s underground rock scene. Shows at Hobart’s Theatre Royal from July 25-27 at 7.30pm. Tickets from $35. Recommended for ages 13+. There will be an AUSLAN interpreted show on Saturday, July 27.
