Ed’s letter

-

Many would remember the focus of this week’s cover, home-grown TV star Bonnie Sveen, for being the unofficial poster girl for healthy body image, after her brave Logies’ acceptance speech. After winning the coveted acting award for Most Popular New Talent for her role in Home and Away in 2014, social media and commentators were abuzz after Bonnie acknowledged the traditional owners of the land on which the Logies were staged, before drawing attention to the issue of body image. “I think it says something really progressive about Australia and about the commercial industry that viewers have so warmly embraced such a natural and healthy young woman on their screens,” she said at the time. Fast forward five years, and Bonnie has traded all the glitz and glamour of TV land for a quiet rural life in the peaceful Huon Valley. And despite all the fame it seems that healthy, humble attitude that endeared her to fans shows no signs of disappearing, as she talks about her new home saying: ‘it is nice to be recognised but to be honest I don’t think people give two hoots who I am right now ... and that’s the way I like it!’
