ANDREW COLRAIN

- PERFORMER/TEACHER

I was happiest when … I was diving off my boat on a hot day into cool, crystal clear, East Coast water while camping with my wife Heidi, my boys and friends last summer. You wouldn’t know it but … I like making things out of leather. My most embarrassing moment … I misread an invitation to a fairly posh birthday party. Thought it was fancy dress. The other 150-odd guests were in evening wear. I went as Freddy Mercury. The last time I cried was … during a performance of Come from Away in Melbourne a few weeks ago. The last book I read was … The Anarchy, a history of the British East India Company’s unfettered plunder of the Indian continent. My favourite films are … the Bourne franchise and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I really want to … get into the amazing mountains of Slovenia to meet Heidi’s relatives and see her Dad’s village. My guilty pleasure is … watching rugby with my passionate rugby mate Mark. Life has taught me … you’re never really happy unless your wife and kids are happy. I’m about to … jump on stage with Matt Ives and his big band in our next instalment of Croon. My first job was … taking paper sacks of groceries out to the cars of shoppers at Purity, North Hobart. My most memorable work-related moment is … I teach accounting at TasTAFE and last week I found that two of my accounting students landed jobs with Wise Lord and Ferguson. What I enjoy most about my work is … helping people to fulfil their potential by learning job-ready, practical skills.

Andrew Colrain, Colin Dean and John X team up with Matthew Ives and his Big Band to present The Very Best of Croon Live at the Theatre Royal on Saturday November 30 at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday December 1 at 2pm. Tickets are $75 ($55 concession). theatreroyal.com.au
