IT was a husband-and-wife team effort to bring the Wills family home to fruition.
A showcase of craftsmanship, builder Corey Wills and his wife Jacqui, who has a sharp eye and passion for interiors, combined their talents on the three-level home they completed in 2017.
“We had a draftsman do the design,” Corey says. “But we did all the features and the interior design.”
The sloping 816sq m site, 15km due east of the city with gun barrel views of the River Derwent and Mount Wellington, dictated the overall design and layout of the home.
A palette of natural materials and neutral colours such as Victorian ash cladding on the top level, dark charcoal-hued render in the middle and grey block work on the ground floor and double garage were deliberate selections, a reflection of the surrounding bush backdrop.
“We wanted to take advantage of the views and build into the landscape,” Corey says.
“We built it with the intention to enjoy the home as a family but also to feature what we can do and showcase what I can do as a carpenter.”
A haven for families and people who love to entertain, Corey says they focused on building a home that effortlessly integrated fun and functionality.
“It’s got a lot of space to entertain guests and we’ve made sure the kids have plenty of space including an outdoor retreat on the lower level and a rear courtyard where there’s 250sqm of level grass and a mini basketball court,” he says.
“It is the perfect family home and great for entertaining.
“It’s split-level with the adult spaces upstairs, the kids in the middle and a spare bedroom downstairs.
“We’ve had 40 people for Christmas lunch and it doesn’t matter if it rains you can still have 40 people inside comfortably.”
The interiors are streamlined and free flowing, opening onto decks, courtyards and all-weather terraces for year-round and seamless indoor/outdoor living.
