Boatshed bliss on the sand sold

FIVE days was all it took for this unique property to be sold. And there really is little wonder why. It is the type of rare offering that could be passed down from generation to generation, and be a hub of family fun and fond memories.

And how often does the chance come along to own a classic boat house right on Taroona Beach?

Peterswald senior property representative Craig Anderson was unsurprised by the lightning-fast sale given the huge interest that the property attracted.

“There was an enormous amount of interest, and we received offers sight unseen,” he said.

“It sold unconditionally with four competing offers.”

Mr Anderson described the boatshed as a “classic 1950s true beach hut” which sits right on the sand of Taroona Beach.

“Originally it was one of only two, positioned next to each other, but one unfortunately burnt down,” he said.

“The boatshed is ideally located and surrounded by parklands, which include public barbecues, playground equipment, public facilities — including an outdoor after beach shower — and a boat launch ramp.

“The boatshed is much loved by the local community as it adds iconic character and history to the Taroona waterfront.”

While similar on the surface, Mr Anderson said there were some differences between this property and the often coveted Cornelian Bay boatsheds.

This one in Taroona could be used as a place to enjoy a good book, or to paint a masterpiece — relaxation guaranteed.

And clearly it would be a prime place to stow a kayak, beach toys and some fishing rods.

“This one is smaller than the Cornelian Bay boatsheds, but could be used for those types of pursuits,” Mr Anderson said.

“We held an open shed for an hour one Saturday afternoon and it was very relaxing sitting sheltered in the shed, watching the passing parade and just taking in its unique position.”

The solidly built 1950s shed features timeless vertical board construction.

Described as “extremely rare”, this offering is one of only 500 Crown Leases statewide — and there will never be any more.

Its breathtaking views stretch across to South Arm, the Iron Pot and the Alum Cliffs.

Known as PID 5721552 Boatshed, Taroona, the property was sold for $96,000.
