Boomers advance Australia where?
THE Federal Government, mainly composed of Baby Boomers, is stealing from the youthful poor, mainly those under 35, and giving to their compatriots — mainly well-heeled Baby Boomers.
This is done through: the use of negative gearing; skewed superannuation regulations (favouring the well-heeled); and reduction in funding for education in general and tertiary education in particular.
The Opposition, by its reticent behaviour, has been complicit in this theft. In fact, when in government they reintroduced tertiary fees.
In addition to financially denuding the up-and-coming future generation, these policies are a curse on Australia’s future prosperity. Our prosperity depends on nurturing and developing our future human resources.
Within the next 30 years or so most of the low-skilled jobs will vanish and the time to prepare for that transition is now. The time for a more equitable tax system which does not discriminate against the young and productive members of our population is well overdue.
In addition to removing negative gearing from existing residential properties and reforming skewed super rules, we must reform our education system. Billions are being wasted on privately owned and operated education institutions, where the profit motive distorts outcomes. This leads to waste and corruption.
It is time the Government took responsibility and reintroduced TAFE colleges and Adult Education. Having said all that, what is most disturbing is that the generation I speak of is so complacent, compliant and cowardly that it is not prepared to say boo, leaving the advancement of its interests to oldies like myself.
