Boot’s on other foot
IT is interesting to read former Labor government adviser and now South Hobart Progress Association president Dr Rosemary Sandford reinvent history when it comes to the issue of a single planning scheme reducing community engagement (“Community deserves to be heard”, Mercury, July 2).
As the operator of the former Cuthbertson’s tannery between Weld and Wynyard streets, a business which can date its origins back to the early 1800s and the establishment of Hobart, it is a bit rich for Dr Sandford to now dictate the future use of this property.
It was the South Hobart Progress Association that mounted a campaign over many years that eventually forced the closure of the tannery, leading to significant jobs losses both in South Hobart and elsewhere in the community.
