Strikers eager to end slump against Graduates

-

ONE team will be seeking consistency and the other redemption when Derwent and North-West Graduates meet in men’s Premier League hockey at 4pm today.

Last season’s grand finalists head into the next instalment of their fierce rivalry with contrasting form, but sit just two points apart.

Second-placed Derwent has taken just one point from its ADAM CLIFFORD last three matches, while Graduates have overcome a shaky start to the year to be within striking distance of the double chance.

The Strikers have promoted experienced defender Stuart Webb to the Premier League squad for the first time this season as they move closer to full strength after a tough period.

“Grads are very close to us on the ladder so points would be very handy but I am looking for individuals to step up and play consistently week in and week out,” Addison said.

“Not enough of our players played anywhere near their ability last week in a 3-2 loss to DiamondBacks and now that selections are getting tight consistency will be the determining factor from here on in.”

North-West Graduates coach Marcus Richardson has James Bourke and James Barrenger returning to an in-form side that is keen to atone for earlier losses to the Strikers.

“History shows that finishing top two certainly helps winning premierships but I believe it’s more about form and consistency at the right time of year,” Richardson said.

“Our last two games against Derwent have probably been our worst two performances of the season but I feel that the group has developed immensely from the start of round two.”

Ladder leaders OHA will aim to get back in the winner’s circle with victory against a University side minus Graham Brennan at 1pm.

A loss to University, and a win against Canterbury in the 2:30pm game, can claw Diamondbacks to within two points of fourth position.

The Lions have promoted young gun Sam McCulloch, while DiamondBacks are sticking with their winning formula.
