Grand designs for jack of all trades
YEAR 10 student Jack Wilson is on track to learn the skills that may see him build his own house one day.
The 16-year-old is one of 20 Tasmanian students who will take part in a new pre-apprenticeship scheme that aims to give them a pathway into an apprenticeship or traineeship in the building and construction industry.
The Building Futures Project connects government, industry, schools and community to give students work readiness skills and an understanding of industry expectations across multiple trades over the course of the school year.
New Town High School student Jack will study bricklaying, carpentry, construction and joinery and hopes to start an apprenticeship as soon as possible for a career in carpentry.
“I like designing and building things, I think it’s really cool,” he said.
