Mercury (Hobart)

Rush of a mad world

- Wendy Pearson Sandy Bay

READING the Mercury each day, listening to the news on radio or watching TV, everything in our society seems so rushed — people working different hours with the issue of penalty rates, traffic congestion, actually trying to get to these workplaces on time, trying to have peace in their workplaces with disputes about water, council meetings and another looming forest conflict.

I am now aged 72 and when I was a schoolboy it was taught that a 24 hour day was made up of eight hours work, eight hours recreation and eight hours of sleep.
