Upset win chance, says Knights boss

- ALEX LUTTRELL

HE is coaching one of the two Southern Championship sides in the Milan Lakoseljac Cup quarter-finals, but Glenorchy Knights coach Franco Previdi believes his players are more than capable of making the final four.

Second-tier championship leader Glenorchy hosts second-placed NPL Tasmania outfit Devonport City at KGV tomorrow.

Devonport is coming off three straight league wins against Clarence, South Hobart and the Northern Rangers, while the Knights have won their opening five championship matches, scoring an average of seven goals a game.

Glenorchy is certainly firing on all cylinders after defeating NPL Tasmania outfit Kingborough during the Lakoseljac Cup round of 16 and Previdi said his side was “quite capable” of an upset victory over a team that sits a division above.

“Devonport are equal top of the [NPL Tasmania] ladder and they are disciplined but beatable and we are capable of beating them,” Previdi said.

“They are good on the counter so we have to be aware of that, but we’re not going to change anything.”

However, Glenorchy will have to do it without star attacking full back Kurt Engels (hamstring), while centre back Jade Clay (hamstring) is just a 50-50 chance to play. Kick off is at 3pm. In other matches at KGV tomorrow, NPL Tasmania leader Olympia tackles Southern Championship side Nelson at 12.30pm, while the Hobart Zebras meet Clarence at 5.30pm. In the North, Launceston City hosts South Hobart from 3.30pm.
