Scheer joy for skipper

- ALEX LUTTRELL

HOBART Chargers women’s coach Dwain Davie wants to keep hold of American import Kathleen Scheer in future seasons after she was named captain of the side for this year.

Scheer has registered a team-high 91 points over four games and is third in the SEABL’s average points.

The forward returned for her fifth Chargers campaign this year and Davie said he would love to keep Scheer for a sixth stint next year.

“Those conversations are ongoing. There’s nothing in place at the moment but she’s been here five years now,” Davie said. “We’d obviously love to keep hold of her but we haven’t had that discussion yet.”

Scheer, who replaced former captain Izzy Chilcott after her departure for Nunawading last year, said she felt privileged to be named captain.

“It’s an honour I will take really seriously as this club is really important to me,” she said.

The Chargers will travel to face Albury-Wodonga at 6pm tomorrow before also travelling to play Kilsyth at noon on Sunday.

Davie said the first interstate trip would help with team bonding after an 82-80 double-overtime loss to Sandringham last week.

“We played really hard and the girls are playing a good brand of basketball,” he said.

“We have to dust ourselves off and try to get another couple of wins this weekend.”

The Chargers have a 2-2 record this season and sit fourth in the SEABL southern conference.
