State’s $1m extra to help refugees
THE State Government will commit an additional $1 million to support refugees entering the state.
Tasmania will accept up to 500 of an additional national intake of 12,000 refugees flee- ing conflict in Iraq and Syria.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Sarah Courtney said the Government would submit an additional $1 million to “wraparound’’ services for all humanitarian arrivals to “ensure the best possible settlement outcomes”. Funding recipients include the Multicultural Council of Tasmania, the Migrant Resource Centre in northern and southern Tasmania and the Red Cross.
