Solution so far off

QUOTATION of the week by the Royal Hobart Hospital: “client care is our highest priority”. This was stated by a Health Service spokesman after a coroner’s report was handed down stating the level of care was substandard. No-one doubts that the staff try their best under difficult circumstances but all political parties must hang their heads in shame for allowing this health shambles to continue.

Why, after so many years of many health ministers, do we still have empty wards while “clients” await surgeries in some cases for years and “clients” wait in trolleys or ambulances for attention.

Many years back I suggested in writing to this column that we should invest in a hospital ship just like the Third World Countries and it could circumnavigate the A new way to have your say themercury.com.au readers have a new way to have their say. Lay off health

THE risk to anyone providing services to the public will always be high, be it hospital emergency departments, schools or police. The attack on the Tasmanian health system is based on nothing. It’s time that the Opposition, unions and their white-collar AMA chapter realised this and stop their public scare campaigns all designed to push Labor back into power at the next state election. Please, leave politics out of health, and let the health professionals do their job. I wonder how many of those presenting to the emergency department in numbers to overwhelm the system were actually there for an emergency? I hear that Minister Ferguson is doing a fine job and if the lefties, unions, AMA want any encouragement at all, just look at the fine state of affairs left by the previous minister if you will. I AGREE with Tony Archer about flu shots so here is another “jab” for Peter Lawler (Letters, May 2). I am 77 and never had a flu shot and never will, never had the flu, rarely had a cold so try being healthy, go to the gym, walk every day, eat first class food. So shove your flu shots.

Doesn’t look fun

WHY is it that the models on the catwalk all look like they would rather be somewhere else.

Warning tolled

DON’T encourage terrorists. Wake up Australia, terrorists do not originate from Christian backgrounds, so stop penalising Christian religion and pandering to others.

Hospital pass

MR Howard bought it for $1 in 2007 and now Mr Turnbull has paid $730 million for the State Government to take it off their hands. There’s only one conclusion to be drawn: the feds have discovered Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction in the basement of the Mersey Hospital.

Forestry disagreement

SO this government has a mandate to stamp its huge footprint all over the state? Voters know not what they do.
