SINNERS ARE GRINNERS

-

HOBART’S reigning “heavy metal world champions”, Taberah, are set to launch their long-awaited third album tomorrow night.

Vocalist/guitarist Jonathon Barwick and drummer Tom Brockman created Taberah way back in 2004, with Myles Flood (guitar) and Dave Walsh (bass) coming on board to help define the Taberah sound and style — which mixes the traditional heavy metal of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath with the rock ’n’ roll swagger of AC/DC and Thin Lizzy and the overthe-top theatrics of Queen and The Darkness.

In 2011 Taberah were handpicked by Lemmy Kilmister to open for Motorhead in Sydney. They have also shared stages with the likes of Ace Frehley (KISS), Paul Di’anno (Iron Maiden), Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest), Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper), Blessed by a Broken Heart, Blind Guardian, Psycroptic, Municipal Waste, Hammerfall and Nightwish.

Along the way Taberah released the albums The Light of Which I Dream (2011) and Necromancer (2013), with Necromancer proving to be a hit with fans and critics alike.

The record scored rave reviews both in Australia and overseas, and was named album of the year on Triple M’s metal show Distortion. Last week Taberah returned with their third album, Sinner’s Lament. Now they are set to tour the country to promote it, with dates locked in for Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Perth over the next six weeks.

But first they will officially launch Sinner’s Lament as part of the Big Ol’ Metal Show at the Brisbane Hotel tomorrow night, which will also feature performances by Melbourne acts Atomic Riot and Sudden State, plus locals GAPE, Zeolite, The Absolution Sequence, Sanctify the Serpent and Palace of Power.

Doors open at 7.45pm. Tickets are $15 at the door.
