ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE
DON’T get Sidetracked and miss your chance to dance and raise some muchneeded funds for wildlife conservation tomorrow night.
An event at Hobart pub The Duke will raise money and awareness for two hardworking volunteer organisations, Succurs For Wildlife and Sea Shepherd.
Founded by a Hobart wildlife rescuer two years ago, Succurs for Wildlife usually raises funds by making and selling succulent terrariums, with the money then used to run campaign billboards on Metro buses advocating the prevention of wildlife deaths and trauma on Tasmanian roads.
Succurs for Wildlife is currently working to treat the serious problem of sarcoptic mange in the state’s wombat population.
Sea Shepherd, meanwhile, is on a mission to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans, in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
Tomorrow night’s fundraiser will feature live blues, soul and rock ’n’ roll music by Hobart band Sidetracked.
Local music scene veterans Mick Paine (guitar, vocals), Nigel Nichols (drums) and Paddy Gearman (bass) formed Sidetracked in 2015, and recently expanded by adding guitarist and vocalist Marcus Pizzolato (The Fabulous Blue Cats, The Mighty Excellos, The Cuban Heels, Double Shuffle) to the line-up.
Together, they play songs by the likes of Freddie King, Jimmy McCracklin, Earl Hooker, Magic Sam, Big Sandy and Billy “The Kid’’ Emerson, plus more contemporary artists such as Junior Watson and JD McPherson.
The wildlife fundraiser will be held at The Duke in Macquarie St tomorrow night, with Sidetracked hitting the stage at 7.30pm. Tickets are $10, available from
www.succursforwildlife.org or at the door. Phone 6223 5206 for meal bookings.
