YOU may actually have to kill to get a ticket to next week’s Tasmanian premiere of the hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal Heathers: The Musical.

Based on one of the great cult movie classics of the ’80s, Heathers follows the goings-on at Westerberg High, which is ruled by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing trio of teens all named Heather — the hottest and cruellest girls in all of Ohio.

Brainy, beautiful teenage misfit Veronica Sawyer managed to hustle her way into the powerful clique. But before she can get comfortabl­e she falls in love with the dangerousl­y sexy new kid in class, J.D.

When one of the Heathers then kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and suck up to the terrible trio. But J.D. has another plan for that bullet ...

Heathers: The Musical was written by the award-winning creative team of Kevin Murphy ( Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe ( Legally Blonde) and is now being brought to the Hobart stage by director Karen Kluss, who has assembled a cast including Emily Dean, Alec Simpson, Katie Green, Jaime Mollineaux-Herbert, Chloe Evans, Sam Dean, Felix Jarvis, Martine Holliday, Charlea Edwards, John X, Colin Dean, Maegan Cross, Amy Macgregor, Annie McCann, David Abbott, Samuel Apted and Jeremy Pyefinch.
