HAVE YOUR CUPCAKE AND EAT IT TOO
BRAVO
THE
Tasmanian Song Company’s Choral Showcase with Cupcakes concert at Rosny on Sunday will feature songs to suit every taste.
Musical director and conductor Matthew Ives is best known as one of Tasmania’s leading drummers and for the monthly performances by his big band at Wrest Point.
He also has a background in a cappella singing, and is pleased to now be part of the Tasmanian Song Company performances.
“The choir will be singing something for everyone — and it all comes with a complimentary cupcake afternoon tea,” he said.
“Just like hundreds and thousands on the cupcakes, the songs will be colourful and aplenty.”
The choir will sing Ives’ own arrangements of many of the songs, which will range from pop songs by The Beatles, Billy Joel and Blondie, through to a work by Finnish composer Sibelius.
Ives said musical accompaniment by bassist Hamish Houston and keyboardist Tim Misson would add to the colour and variety to the program, while former choir musicians Rachael Taylor and Iestyn Parry will also make guest appearances.
Choir president Maree Richards is particularly looking forward to singing Ives’ arrangements, especially Blondie’s The Tide Is High.
“It is a really catchy tune and you are bound to find yourself singing it long after the concert ends,” she said.
“And Matthew’s arrangement has a big surprise in the middle for the audience.”
The Choral Showcase with Cupcakes concert will be held in The Barn at Rosny Farm from 2pm on Sunday. Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 concession, available from www.trybooking.com or by phoning 0417 347 044.
