FULL BLOOM OF YOUTH
Choir, directed by Andrew Bainbridge.
TYO manager Michelle Forbes said the concert would feature performers as young as seven, some of whom will be making their ensemble performance debuts.
“This concert will celebrate the return of the TYO Percussion Ensemble, with Tracey Patten as director, and features a very special guest alumnus performer, Robert Cossom,” she said.
“Robert is currently a percussionist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and played in TYO ensembles for many years during the 1970s and ’80s.
“Robert has said the TYO is basically the reason for what he does today.
“He is very much looking forward to working with the young TYO percussionists and it is testament to his dedication to education and support for the development of young musicians.”
Forbes said another new aspect for the TYO was the collaboration with the Tasmanian Youth Choir, which she said would perform folk songs from Korea and Spain, “and another work that is guaranteed to delight the audience”.
The TYO concert will be held in the Stanley Burbury Theatre on the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus from 2pm on Sunday.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 concession and $40 for families, available from www.tyo.org.au or at the door (cash only). — PENNY THOW
