Pidgeon takes top netball job

- RENEE GODFREY

AARON Pidgeon has been appointed chief executive officer of Netball Tasmania.

He will start his duties next Monday.

Netball Tasmania president Liz Banks said she and the board were delighted with the appointment.

“Aaron brings to the role significant netball and corporate experience that will continue to grow our sport across Tasmania,” Banks said.

Pidgeon has been involved in netball in Tasmania for many years, having obtained his high-performance coaching accreditation in 2010.

He most recently was the assistant coach of the Tasmanian Magpies ANL team this year and before that coached the Tassie Spirit (ANL) side from 2007-13.

Pidgeon is excited for what the future of netball holds in the state, and the experience and knowledge he brings to the role means the sport is in good hands.

“It’s a perfect mix of my passion for netball, and my corporate and commercial experience of my time at MyState,” Pidgeon said.

“I’ll be looking to make positive change and not reinvent the wheel.

“Netball Tasmania already has a great strategic plan in place, so it will be more finding different ways to deliver on the strategic plan and increase the opportunities for the Tasmanian netball community.

“We’ll be looking to further consolidate on the Collingwood Magpies deal and continue to make the sport attractive for the community in general.”

Pidgeon replaces Julia Phillips, who has spent the past six years improving the profile of netball in Tasmania.

“Julia did an outstanding job and Aaron has the background and credibility in the national and Tasmanian netballing community to continue this,” Banks said. “The role of CEO has grown significantly, so we had a strong field apply and it’s great to see a local take on that leadership role.”
