THE FACE OF EVIL

MANCHESTER MOURNS

- ELLEN WHINNETT

AN EVIL jihadi who murdered 22 pop fans in Manchester was secretly trained as a terrorist during family visits to the Middle East.

Salman Abedi, 22, right, has been exposed as a twisted youth who chanted prayers in the street where he lived and who showed an imam the “face of hate” when warned about the dangers of Islamic State.

Britain’s Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, said the suicide bomber, who had travelled to London days before his atrocity, was known to security services.

THE suicide bomber who murdered 22 people including children and maimed 59 more is the Britishborn son of Libyan refugees who moved to the UK to escape the Gaddafi regime.

Police yesterday named the dead bomber as Salman Abedi, right, a 22year-old from Manchester.

He was the secondyoungest of four children and was born and raised in Manchester after his parents were granted refugee status to escape the despotic regime of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Police had identified him early and are working to determine if he was part of a wider Islamist network. He is thought to have been known to police.

It was reported he had only recently returned from a three-week trip to Libya days before the bombing.

A 23-year-old was also arrested as part of the investigation, but police have refused to give any details about him. Reuters reported he was believed to be Abedi’s older brother.

Greater Manchester Police chief constable Ian Hopkins revealed Abedi’s identity but would give no further details, pending formal identification from the Coroner.

“The priority remains to establish whether he was acting alone,” he said.
