Trio aims to put on a show
THREE Tasmanian boxers will feature on the undercard of rising Australian twins Jason and Andrew Moloney in Melbourne tomorrow night — all facing career-defining bouts.
Undefeated brothers Andrew (bantamweight) and Jason (super bantamweight), who both hold 12-0 records, will be the drawcards at the Function Centre at Melbourne Park but a trio from across the Bass Strait have just as much on the line.
Heavyweight Jayden “Plugger” Nichols (2-0) will be looking to keep his perfect professional record intact against Pascall Milo, while Joe Corner (4-1) steps up a division into super middleweight in his showdown with Mark Smith.
Kristina Jacobs will also square off against former Australian flyweight champion and Oceania Boxing bantamweight champion Bianca Elmir, looking to begin her path on what coach Adrian Lovell believes could end with Commonwealth Games selection.
Lovell said all three of his Brighton Boxing Club students were ready to rumble.
“It’s a big show to be on, I’m quietly confident but in saying that it is boxing, you are only one punch from disaster,” Lovell said.
“At the end of the day they have done all the hard work, it is a matter of putting it all together on the night.
“For Joe, there are a few expectations on him. He sort of needs to win this one because in the pipeline there are a couple of big things that are being talked about by people down here. He could well and truly find himself staring down the barrel of an Australian title at the end of the year, it is pretty crucial.
“Kristina probably has the toughest fight, she’s fighting the No. 2 girl from Boxing Australia. It is the first time in the history of boxing there’s been an all female undercard before a pro show. She fights again on June 17, if we put the runs on the board and get a couple of wins, she will hopefully be looking at Commonwealth selection.”
