Horn ready for Manny’s left hook

- GRANTLEE KIEZA

JEFF Horn would fight Manny Pacquiao in a phone booth if he had to and is prepared to win a brutal grinding fight of close combat on Sunday at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

While Horn went through a light workout at his Brisbane gym yesterday he said all the hard work for the fight was now done and he would concentrate on tapering his preparation so he was ready to explode against the World Boxing Organisation welterweight champion.

He said he had been reading and re-reading his trainer Glenn Rushton’s 10point plan for victory.

One of the major points is to constantly move away from Pacquiao’s devastating left hand, his number one knockout weapon.

Horn said the prospect of fighting before more than 50,000 people at the stadium and a worldwide television audience approaching a billion people didn’t frighten him at all.

“I feel great, very relaxed,’’ Horn said.

“I am so grateful for everyone’s support but when I go out there I just want my family and friends to know I’ve done the very best I can and I believe I can win.”

Pacquiao spent part of yesterday watching a video report of Horn’s last-sparring session, which showed glimpses of him firing heavy combinations.

“Yes he has a good right hand,’’ Pacquiao he said.

“He’s a good boxer but I’m ready.’’

Rushton said he believed there was an “80 per cent chance’’ that the fight would end with a late-round stoppage and he had every confidence Horn had the movement and the power to spring a huge upset.

“Jeff is like a Samurai warrior who has been tempered for years like hardened steel,” Rushton said.

“Jeff would fight Manny in a phone booth if he had to. We actually wanted the smallest ring we could get.’’
