Bombers sign new deal with Daniher

- JAY CLARK

ESSENDON has locked in spearhead Joe Daniher to a new three-year deal.

The gun forward has committed to the club until the end of 2020 in a boost to Essendon’s finals aspirations.

Daniher has become one of the league’s most damaging key forwards this season, scor- ing 35 goals and 20 points from 13 games.

Teammate Brendon Goddard has likened his athleticism and scoring power to the talents of Sydney superstar Lance Franklin.

His signature thwarts any prospect of a poaching raid from rivals.

It is also seen as another major coup in Essendon’s attempts to rise from the ashes of the supplements saga.

Daniher, 23, said he was thrilled to sign.

“I’m really excited to commit to the club for a further three years,” he said.

“I’m confident and proud of the direction we’re going, we have a great group of players who are working hard to take the club where it needs to be.

“I’m really enjoying my football at Essendon, and that is largely due to the relationships that I have formed over the early part of my career and the positive direction we’re heading as a group.

“I’m really encouraged by the progress we’re making, but very understanding we have a long way to go to become the team we want to become.”
