IT’S RHYME TIME AS ALLISON KIDS AROUND

-

SINGER

Allison Farrow is known for singing ritzy, sophisticated jazz and show tunes, but for this year’s Festival of Voices she will perform songs aimed at young children and their families.

Farrow, who has been part of the festival since 2011, will give two performances of Rhymes My Nanna Taught Me at Rosny on July 9.

She said the show would feature songs she had grown up with.

“I’ve been thinking about by own Nan and have gone back to the basics,” Farrow said.

“It’s the lovely oldfashioned nursery rhymes that many generations have grown up with.”

Farrow has had her own “quality control” team to help her choose the songs.

“My son Charlie is eight, and my daughter Annali, who is four, especially loves the nursery rhymes and the dancing,” she said.

“They are my sounding board. If they don’t really engage with a song, then it doesn’t make the cut.

“Sing a Song of Sixpence is one of our favourites. I still remember my grandmother ‘pecking off’ my nose at the end.”

Little Jack Horner, Little Boy Blue Come Blow Your Horn, Lavender Blue and Humpty Dumpty are among others included.

“I’m happy for the children to join in, and we’ll do the actions,” Farrow said.

“I hope they go away singing and humming the tunes and hope they are carried on and continue to be passed down.”

Allison Farrow will perform Rhymes My Nanna Taught Me in The Barn at Rosny Farm from 2pm and 4pm next on July 9. Tickets are $12, available from www.festivalofvoices.com
