Pies have poor list strategy, says Roos

-

SYDNEY premiership coach Paul Roos has slammed Collingwood for its “appalling” list management strategy.

Roos yesterday accused the Magpies of signing players and building a list without a plan on how they might play or slot into the best 22.

“If you look at Collingwood’s list management over the last however many years it’s been appalling because they don’t actually have [a plan],” Roos said. “I’m not going to make comment as how I believe each player performs at AFL level. What I’m going to say is Jesse White goes in, where does he fit in?

“James Aish comes into a midfield that’s already got Levi Greenwood, [Adam] Treloar, [Taylor] Adams.”

Former Melbourne star Jeremy Howe selected Collingwood over Gold Coast at the end of 2015 on a promise he would play forward and wing. That lasted only a handful of games, with the spring-heeled Magpie quickly becoming a mainstay in defence.

“They don’t actually have a list management plan. That’s part of the problems,” Roos told Triple M.

Roos endorsed the Magpies’ decision to swoop on Will Hoskin-Elliott and Daniel Wells. Both add muchneeded speed, class and polish, despite Wells having only played six games battling persistent calf issues.

“Everyone has hits and misses so I’m not talking about [that], because you can look at Melbourne under me coaching, you can look at Sydney,” Roos said. “We had some hits and misses, but you must have a plan as to where they’re going to play.”
