Bomber’s spear tackle earns tribunal hearing

- BRETT STUBBS Sports Editor

L AUDERDALE’S J o r d a n Roberts has been sent straight to the TSL tribunal for his spear tackle on Launceston’s Stewart Williams.

The TSL match review panel stated: “Strong consideration was given to the impact of the conduct, with the panel deeming the potential to cause injury great enough to be rated high impact.”

And he’s not the only Bomber in trouble, with teammate Scott Hill offered a twomatch ban for a sling tackle on the Blues playing-coach Sam Lonergan in the first term. Lonergan was unable to take any further part in the game.

Hill has until 9am today to accept the two-match sanction or fight it at the tribunal and risk a three-game suspension.

Glenorchy could also be without a trio of its players for Saturday’s home game against Burnie.

Premiership player Mat- thew Joseph has been referred to the tribunal for striking the Tigers Lachlan Clifford, while two teammates will definitely miss the clash with the Dockers. Big midfielder Mitch Rainbird accepted a one-match ban for striking the Tigers Tyler Carter while Connor Salter received the same penalty for striking Mitch Walker. THE Tigers have received a $500 suspended fine for playing former St Kilda big man Daniel Archer in Saturday’s loss to Glenorchy at the Twin Ovals. While the Tigers informed both Glenorchy and TSL management on Friday night, Archer came into their team from outside the squad of 22 players and four emergencies named on Thursday. TASMANIA’S under-17s boys’ side made it two from two with a come-from-behind win over Queensland at Whitten Oval in Melbourne yesterday.

Trailing by 17 points at the last break, Tasmania kicked 5.1 to 2.0 to win by five points, 11.6 (72) to 10.7 (67). Caleb Triffett kicked three goals for Tasmania, while teammate Jamieson House was best afield and also booted two goals. MOWBRAY’S Invermay Park, former home ground of Ricky Ponting, will host its first TSL game this Sunday. With UTas Stadium unavailable due to the Hawthorn-GWS AFL clash the day before, North Launceston will host Devonport across the road.
