Cape bid rolls on

Family eyes next stage

- NICK CLARK

A TABLE Cape farming family will restart discussions with potential operators and investors after their $100 million tourism development was approved by the WaratahWynyard Council on Monday.

Director of Table Cape Cape Enterprises Pty Ltd Narelle Woodhouse said a Sydney architectural firm Silvester Fuller would co-ordinate discussions on moving to the next stage.

She said serious discussions had been put on hold until after the development approval was received.

The development is on fertile farming land in Ransleys Rd, which has been until now used for farming by Ms Woodhouse’s father Kenneth Ransley. The family has funded the project so far.

The proposed 50-room luxury resort, restaurant and function centre would boast one of the most picturesque views in Tasmania being on the eastern side of Table Cape near Wynyard, with views across Bass Strait and east towards Devonport.

It is adjacent to the popular Table Cape Tulip Farm.

Ms Woodhouse said the development on 7ha was aimed at being sympathetic to its surrounds, and to being one of the most environmentally sustainable and responsive destinations in Tasmania. It is expected to employ 84 people full-time when completed.

Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh described the development as the most exciting ever received by the council.
