School traffic

TONY Squires and Cecilia Wootton (Letters, July 12) have hit the nail on the head. The principal reason for city traffic congestion is the use of cars taking children to school. Why has this occurred? Prior to January 2015 we had a functional Metro bus system which allowed most kids to catch a bus to school in a convenient and timely manner. With the change of Metro

No job for a lady

I AM utterly gobsmacked by today’s BBC Dr Who announcement. Jodie Whittaker may be a reasonable actress, but to select a woman as the 13th Doctor is the weakest cave-in to political correctness I have seen for many a year. You wouldn’t have a Swahili or Chinese Santa, or an Eskimo Jesus, or a Fijian Muhammad.

They have selected a woman for the sake of selecting a woman. Oh look, aren’t they trendy? The BBC have obviously been softening their audience up with the Master becoming Missy and the most recent companion being lesbian. I thought Missy’s advent was a little odd, but had no problems with a gay companion.

I don’t think I’m sexist or racist but some roles should be reserved for women, and some — especially the lead role in Doctor Who — reserved for men. I am devastated, and will now erase all of my hard drive episode copies and throw out my tapes.

This year’s Xmas special — with someone playing Bill Hartnell’s Doctor — will be my last episode ever. I reckon old Bill would be doing about 1000rpm in his grave at the moment.
