Trengove: Port has power to improve

- JESPER FJELDSTAD

PORT Adelaide utility Jackson Trengove says the Power players can smell the excitement of September and is confident there is improvement at Port Adelaide.

Trengove, who celebrated his 150th game in the Power’s win against North Melbourne, was also confident ruckman forward Paddy Ryder would play as the club prepared to take on Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.

Ryder is recovering from an ankle complaint.

Trengove said things were falling into place for the Power.

“It’s starting to get exciting,” he said. “You can almost smell it around the footy club.

“The business end is starting to come around and we’ve got to take it up a notch or two.

“As [coach] Ken [Hinkley] mentioned, he still believes, and we believe as a footy club we have some room to improve.”

Trengove said Ryder would do everything he could to play against the Demons. But he expected it to take until later in the week for Ryder to join the main group in training.

“He obviously pulled up a little bit sore but he is a professional about the way he goes about his recovery and he’s already walking around and will probably play this week,” he said.

“I think he’ll be on light duties but Thursday in our main session he will be out there, I would suggest.”

Trengove said Melbourne, which lost to Adelaide in Darwin on Saturday, would be not only a formidable challenge — the match would also give the Power a chance to test itself at the MCG.

“I think it is going to be an absolute belter,” he said. “We are playing some really good footy but we know what Melbourne can do.”
