Arrows shooting for win No.16

- RENEE GODFREY

AYC-Friends Arrows will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when they take on Karana Flames in tonight’s Round 16 Tasmanian Netball League Match.

Arrows have again proved the powerhouse of the competition, with their closest game coming against Cripps Waratah in Round 2, when they won by 11.

They have exceptional depth, having dealt with injury and unavailability of key players such as goal-scoring machine Sophie Gunn and athletic defender A.J. Gough without showing any kinks in their armour.

The skill of key players such as Tasmanian Magpies co-captain Hayley Sansom is impressive, with Sansom having played excellent games in goals, centre court and defence this year.

Kate Marr (nee Schwartz) has returned to the fold recently to help cover the injuries and has not missed a beat, slotting back into the side seamlessly.

With the players working on different combinations to ensure they can maintain their trademark intensity, Marr has enjoyed being back in the team and is looking forward to hopefully another successful finals campaign.

Of tonight’s game against Karana, she said: “They’ve been doing really well, so I certainly think we’re not taking it lightly, and we’ll be going in putting our best team on the court, and doing as much as we can to make sure we win and win well.”

Karana was without under19 Australian squad member Lauren Mills last weekend, but under-19 goalie Renee Terry stepped up beautifully, helping Karana to an 11-goal win against Cripps to keep its chances of a top-two finish alive, but it must win tonight to stay in the hunt for that all- important second chance. The action starts at 8.05pm.

In tomorrow’s matches, Cripps travel to Ulverstone to take on Burnie Tigers at 3.45pm.

OHA will be full of confidence after its first win of the season last weekend against Burnie, but has the tough task of taking on Northern Hawks at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre at 6.15pm, and Devon travels to the Silverdome to take on Cavaliers at 6.35pm.
