Things are nearly back to Normal

SYDNEY prog-rockers Cog have set the wheels in motion to make a highly anticipated visit to Tasmania.

More than six years since they disbanded, Cog will hit Hobart and Launceston this weekend after reforming last year.

Luke Gower (bass), his brother Flynn (vocals, guitar) and drummer Lucius Borich formed Cog back in 1998, and built up a huge live following before finally recording their debut album, The New Normal, in late 2004.

When Cog released The New Normal in April the following year, it debuted at No.19 on the ARIA albums chart.

The New Normal went on to be nominated for Triple J’s inaugural J Award for Australian Album of the Year.

Their debut album was followed in 2008 by the release of Sharing Space, which again attracted rave reviews, with the singles What If, Are You Interested? and Bird of Feather proving popular with fans and critics alike.

Despite the success of their albums, Cog are best known for their powerful live shows, which have earned them spots at Australia’s biggest festivals, including Big Day Out and Falls Festival.

The band members went their separate ways in 2010, but announced their comeback last year.

This weekend’s Tasmanian gigs will be Cog’s first in the since May 2009.

Cog appear to be pumped to be playing in Tasmania, with their Facebook page dotted with posts documenting their rehearsals for this weekend since the shows were announced in late May.

Cog are performing at Club 54 in Launceston from 8pm tomorrow, supported by Paper Souls and Captives.

They then play at the Granada Tavern at Berriedale from 8pm on Saturday, supported by Minds In Motion and Verticoli.

Both are 18+ events. Tickets for the Launceston gig are $50-$51 from www.oztix.com.au
