Mercury (Hobart)

Drawn by an active community

NEIL Gould and his partner Lisa Montgomery have joined a long list of people who used to live interstate but now call Cradoc home.

Mr Gould is from South Australia, but his parents had lived in Tassie and he grew up on stories from his mum about going on “holiday” a long way from home — Hobart to Cradoc.

The town is just 45 minutes from Hobart, which appealed to the couple when they bought the 4.5ha property.

Mrs Montgomery said the stunning scenery was also near the top of the list and the “welcoming, active community”.

“Relocating from SA was a big move, but we can see ourselves staying put here,” she said. “We thrilled with our new home.”

Mr Gould said the couple had visited Tasmania a few times on holiday, then spent a few years looking for the right house to buy.

Harcourts Huon Valley property consultant Karl Gallienne said Cradoc’s main attractions included its picturesque rural feel, small acreages are on offer and position halfway between Huonville and Cygnet.

TPR Property Group property consultant Kim Wilson said buyers wanted to live in the Huon Valley to escape the mainland heat.

Also, Cradoc is within reach of the airport and “close to Cygnet or Huonville’s shopping centres without having to live in suburbia”.
