Walk hand in hand with your imagination
IMPROVISATION, abstraction, noise and science-fiction will all collide when French artist, poet and experimental musician Felicia Atkinson performs in Hobart for the first time tomorrow night.
A graduate of l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Atkinson creates abstract paintings, drawings, sculptures, texts, installations, performances and musical compositions, which are often based around sounds, objects and other diverse materials she has collected on her travels.
Her sound palette draws from the history of electronics, musique concrete, field recordings and improvisation through the use of guitar and piano, abstract distortions, textsound and infra bass.
This year Atkinson released her latest album, Hand in Hand, to widespread acclaim and intrigue, with Fact Magazine describing the record as “bewitching, intense, meditative and at times deeply unsettling”.
Now Atkinson is in Australia for the first time, joined by her collaborator and co-publisher Bartolome Sanson, spending almost two months giving a series of performances and talks and holding exhibitions across the country.
Atkinson presents a film screening and live performance at Contemporary Art Tasmania, Tasma St, North Hobart, from 5.30pm tomorrow. Entry is free.
